Buh-Bye UTP~

My last night in UTP. It’s actually extended nights. I’ve finished my exam last week (saturday) but decided to stay, have some stuff to pack some more while waiting for CASFUMAL, which is tomorrow. I’m hoping it’ll be really fun.

Missing home a lot! Hope the camp will be over soon.

It’s not actually a camp, but a summit – Career Summit For Future Malaysian Leaders. That’s what CASFUMAL stands for. One thing I agree with Mr Rahmat – they should rebrand their name. CASFUMAL just doesn’t feel right when it’s pronounced. Branding is really important and has powerful impact for various entities, be it an organization, a product or a service.

CASFUMAL really needs rebranding, perhaps by changing its main title, and come up with a more suitable acronym. Let’s face the fact. CASFUMAL is an acronym that is not user friendly: it is hard to be pronounced, totally not memorable and it doens’t have a ‘wow’ factor.

Whenever someone ask me why I stayed in UTP, I would reply

Me : Hey, I’m staying for CASFUMAL.. and people goes like …

Mr A: “What?”

Me : “Casfumal” (trying to keep my cool)

Mr A: What the …. is that?

Me : Well, it’s a summit at..

and before i even finish, the next thing i know, we shifted our topic.

One of my most recent encounter:

Me : Oh I’m staying for CASFUMAL..

Mr B: Er…pardon?

Me: CASFU…Ugh (roll eyes) you know what, forget it about it. I’m going for some camp.

Mr B: Oh right..a camp! Hav fun!~

Me: *smiles* (Phew…curse CASFUMAL…its an ugly mnemonic)

Well, I’m not part of the organizing committee, so what do I care about the name. I’m a participant and what I look forward to is a really fun camp summit gathering. Just one thing I’m curious is whether the summit is going to be conducted in full English? full Malay? or both? Cause the impression I got from the participant briefing was kinda bad, it was in Malay. Not that I don’t understand Malay, (I’m from Terengganu btw..) just that, it sends a negative signal for such a big and prestigious event.

This event doesn’t even utilize blog to spread out its information, but instead have a blog on CASFUMAL Family, and it’s very not informative and is written in casual Malay (not grammatically correct Malay). I have a hard time to look out for its information online, practically there’s none. I ended up asking from the committee directly. Well not all info can be comfortably and accurately conveyed verbally eg. CASFUMAL’s itinerary, how to get there, transportation options. Because of the lack of info I’ve changed my mind like 4 times either to join the event or not.

So let’s see. I’m not judging or expecting much, but I hope my stay in UTP for CASFUMAL 09′ will not be wasted – that the event will turn out to be fun.
