Annoying~

(image edited from lakeview-museum.org)

The mosquito is a sonic deterrent device that sends out high pitched, irritating noise that could cause discomfort to young ears – people below 25 yrs old.

Quoted from BBC, “It was named the ‘Mosquito’ because the sound resembles that of a buzzing insect. And it works by emitting a harmless ultra sonic tone that generally can only b e heard by people aged 25 and under. In trials, it has proven that the longer someone is exposed to the sound, the more annoying it becomes.”

Facts bout the device:

  • Device emits a tone between 17.5kHz and 18.5Khz inaudible to people over about 25 years
  • Tone can be heard from a distance of 15-20m
  • Exposure to sound becomes annoying after 5-10 minutes
  • Soud automatically shuts off after 20 minutes

It has been used in various places to ‘ward off’ or disperse trouble making-youngsters in the UK. Well I think it’s kind of unfair to teenagers…Luckily that Malaysia did not do that to us! Campaigners in the UK calling to scrap the device had said that the high pitch device infringes human rights and it is unfair to children.

Are you affected by the buzzing noise? Try it out yourself!

*I’ve tried it and it really irritates me a lil’ (which proves that I’m young, yay!).

So who’s the one hated by all teen?

The angel side of him:

Howrd Stapleton: “As a father I realise the majority of young people are fun-loving and law abiding”.

“I find it sad that a system is needed to combat lawlessness, but its proven effectiveness shows how much it is needed to improve our communities.

The devil side of him:

Mosquito Inventor

Do you think we should implement this in Malaysia? >.<
